Do 304 and 316L contain nickel?

Those requirements do not make a universal medical promise. Do not translate a general category into a claim that every item sold under that name is suitable.

For a new or healing piercing, the stakes and material requirements differ from an occasional necklace. Work with a qualified piercer who can identify the exact standard, dimensions, finish, and threading of the jewelry, and consult a clinician about symptoms. Do not use a consumer magnet, acid, or spot kit on jewelry in a healing piercing.

A magnet is not an allergy test. Some stainless grades are magnetic, some are not, and fabrication can change magnetic response. Magnet behavior does not measure nickel release or verify the complete item.
