Privacy Policy

Stainless Steel Guide has no user accounts, comment system, newsletter, or forms, so we do not ask for your name or email address. The site and its service providers still process technical and behavioral information when you visit. This page explains that measurement, standard server logs, and what happens when you click an affiliate link.

Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure which pages people read, how visitors arrived, broad engagement patterns, device and browser types, and approximate geography. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers and may process an IP address as part of providing the service. Its reports do not give us a visitor’s name.

When you click a tagged Amazon link, the site sends Google Analytics an affiliate_click event. It includes the permanent link ID, product, page and content section, card presentation, destination URL, and visible link text. Google Analytics also retains the normal traffic-source context for the visit, which lets us compare affiliate clicks by source and placement in aggregate. This event records a click on this site, not an Amazon purchase.

Google processes this information under its privacy policy. You can block analytics cookies or scripts in your browser, or use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Microsoft Clarity

This site uses Microsoft Clarity to understand how pages work for visitors. Clarity collects page-rendering and interaction information such as clicks, scrolls, pointer movements, page visibility, device and browser details, and performance or script errors. It uses this information to create heatmaps, usage reports, and session recordings. A session recording is a reconstruction of page structure and interactions, not camera or microphone footage.

The site also sends Clarity an affiliate_click event and the same permanent link ID. This lets us compare placements and filter heatmaps or recordings that include an affiliate-link interaction. A recording can show the actions taken during one visit, but it does not tell us the visitor’s real-world identity or reveal a later Amazon order.

Affiliate links and Amazon attribution

Stainless Steel Guide participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. A tagged link tells Amazon that the visit came from this site. Amazon may use cookies or similar technology under its own rules to decide whether a later order qualifies for referral credit.

Amazon may provide Associates reports about clicks, ordered or shipped items, and commissions. Those reports do not identify the purchaser to us, and we do not receive payment details. We cannot deterministically connect an Amazon order to a specific Google Analytics or Clarity session. Amazon’s separate processing is governed by the Amazon Privacy Notice. Server logs

The service that hosts this site keeps standard access logs, which can include an IP address, browser identifier, requested page, referrer, and request time. We use these logs to operate the site, diagnose failures, and investigate abuse. We do not combine them with analytics or affiliate reports to try to identify a visitor.

What we do not do

We do not sell, rent, or trade visitor personal data, and we do not run third-party display advertising networks. We do not ask visitors to create an account or submit personal details. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and the hosting provider process the technical information described above under their own terms and privacy notices.

Changes to this policy

If the site adds a feature that changes what gets collected, this page will be updated before that feature goes live. The policy you read here describes how the site works today.
